Notice Regarding the Introduction of Okinawa Accommodation Tax

Accommodation tax will be introduced in Okinawa for stays from 1 February 2027.

Please be advised that the Okinawa Prefectural Government will introduce an accommodation tax applicable to stays from Monday, 1 February 2027.
Accordingly, an accommodation tax will be charged separately for eligible stays from the above date, as outlined below. We kindly ask for your understanding.

EFFECTIVE DATE
Applicable for stays from Monday, 1 February 2027

TAX RATE
2% of the accommodation charge per person per night (excluding tax), capped at JPY 2,000

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Accommodation tax is not included in the rates shown on online booking systems and must be paid separately at the property.
  • The accommodation tax applies to all stays from 1 February 2027 onwards, regardless of the reservation date.
  • “Accommodation charge” does not include dining charges, consumption tax, or other additional fees.
  • Elementary school children staying with meals and bedding included are also subject to the accommodation tax.
  • For consecutive stays spanning 1 February 2027, the tax will apply only to the nights stayed on or after that date.
    Example: Check-in on 31 January 2027 / Check-out on 2 February 2027
    → Accommodation tax applies only to the stay on 1 February.
  • Should any revisions to the tax system occur after a reservation has been made, the final amount charged will be adjusted in accordance with the regulations applicable on the date of stay.
